Kuinkahan kauas nyt palataan, joku nyt varmasti ihmettelee otsakkeen lukiessaan. Otan t\u00e4ss\u00e4 kuitenkin nyt vain t\u00e4llaisen lyhyen askeleen ja palaan vain 1990 luvun lopulle. Her\u00e4te t\u00e4h\u00e4n syntyi, kun selasin vanhoja arkistoituja verkkosivuja TDWI Finlandin alkuajoilta 1997 – 2000. Meill\u00e4 Suomessa oli kova DW buumi ja kaikki seminaarit t\u00e4st\u00e4 aiheesta olivat t\u00e4ynn\u00e4. My\u00f6s TDWI her\u00e4tti samaan aikaan Suomessa valtavan innostuksen BI ammattilaisten keskuudessa. My\u00f6s asiakasorganisaatiot olivat innokkaasti mukana, ainakin ne isoimmat, joissa tietovarastoja ja business intelligenssi\u00e4 kovasti ty\u00f6stettiin. Tietovarastointia esitettiin liiketoiminnalle “mahdollistavana” teknologiana, jonka avulla saatiin aikaiseksi paljon sellaisia asioita, joita pelkill\u00e4 raportointiv\u00e4lineill\u00e4 ei oltu onnistuttu siihen asti kunnollisesti rakentamaan.<\/p>\n

Samalla alettiin kiinnitt\u00e4\u00e4 enenev\u00e4sti huomiota tietoarkkitehtuureihin. Tietoarkkitehtuurikeskustelut olivat v\u00e4lill\u00e4 kuumiakin, kun syntyi niin kutsuttuja “oikeita ja v\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4” tapoja ajatella ja toteuttaa asiaa. Muistan itsekin, kuinka K\u00f6\u00f6penhaminassa vuonna 2000 SAP:in kaverit hillitysti hiiltyiv\u00e4t, kun Bill Inmon esityksess\u00e4\u00e4n arvosteli, ettei SAP:in tietoarkkitehtuuri (BIW) t\u00e4yt\u00e4 tietovarastoinnin tunnusmerkkej\u00e4. Ja kuinka lopulta Bill uhkasi poistattaa kaverit salista, kun takarivin vastav\u00e4itteist\u00e4 ei tahtonut tulla loppua. Sure someone is wondering how far back in time we go now. However, I will only return to the years 1997-2000. The idea of this post was born when I went through the old archived webpages TDWI Finland from the early days. In Finland, we had a tough DW boom, and all the seminars on this topic were full. At the same time, TDWI also aroused great enthusiasm for BI professionals in Finland<\/span><\/span>. Also, customer organizations were eagerly engaged in, at least the biggest of them which significantly developed data warehouses and business intelligence<\/span><\/span>. Data warehousing was presented as an enabling technology for the business, which brought about a number of things that had not been successfully built up by the reporting tools until then.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, more attention was paid to information architectures.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0The information architectural discussions were sometimes hot, as so-called ‘real and false’ ways of thinking and doing things were born.<\/span><\/span> I remember myself how a couple of SAP people in Copenhagen in 2000 got a little bit frustrated when Bill Inmon in his performance criticized that SAP’s BIW data architecture didn’t fulfill the characteristics of data warehouse<\/span><\/span>. And finally, Bill threatened to remove the guys from the hall<\/span><\/span> when the back row protests only continued and continued.<\/span><\/span> At that time, Bill and his partners developed the Corporate Information Factory concept,<\/span><\/span> where data warehouses and datamarts, near line storage and secondary storage, and operational storages (ODS) found their place and mission. For concept developers this was a golden time. This was also a golden time for seminar organizers and professionals, too<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n
